If You Build it They will Come: By far the best situation that a company can find itself in is being chased by investors. Remember the old saying, ‘bankers only want to lend you money when you don’t need it.’ The variation here is that, ‘you are in a stronger position with potential investors if you can walk away from a deal that gets too expensive’. Investors hate to say no, but find it stimulating when a company they have approached declines to take their money. The further along you can bring your company before you seek investment, the better your chances of getting funded on very favorable terms. Here is another way of looking at it; the more clearly your company is ‘investment grade’ the easier it will be to get it funded.
