		<description>I was nodding until munber 10 - boards need to do far more than just oversight. A good board will add to strategy and drive enhanced performance; a good rule of thumb is to spend more than 50% of time on performance and the rest on compliance. Look at the writings of Tricker and Charam for more detailed guidance. This is a good article and I will be sharing it but I do wish more emphasis was given to teh value creation potential of the board.

		<description>Maybe the company has already all the creativity inside, so they concluded that they needed an outside Director. Some examples are already in the replies. If an area of expertise is now considered strategic for the company and in the board is missing a director with experience or knowledge in that field, now is the right moment to bring in an outside director and don’t let that strategic field only in the hands of a supplier.

One of these strategic areas could be IT, for example.
