Its Better If It’s Not That Simple

One of the most difficult challenges to any entrepreneur is to realize that few people who may get involved in their enterprise have anywhere near the same worldview, set of expectation, standards, sensitivities, insensitivities, needs, etc. as they do. The cognitive dissonance my clients was suffering arose from an expectation that everyone saw the world and their place in it in a manner roughly similar to the way he did. He was unable to see each individual as just that, an individual. His tendency was to try to fit them into his worldview. The resulting friction turned them off and caused him frustration.

Working through that tendency was not easy. It took several months of hard coaching work. He had to put his idea for a new company on hold and concentrate on developing a capability that had not occurred to him as necessary for his success. Along the way, I developed several rather innovative approached to overcoming the aversion to dissonance. All in all, it was a journey of discovery for us both.
