Foundations are important – and nowhere more so than when preparing for a career of success. Starting construction with the second story only makes it certain that the structure will fall when the winds start to blow.

For the successful executive, the learning process never stops. The world itself is a school and we learn daily. Acquaintances, colleagues and adversaries teach us lessons about how to succeed in life. Occasionally we have the good luck to meet an enlightened person who takes the time to teach us. A major part of my coaching practice involves just such teaching. Some call it mentoring – others leadership coaching – I refer to it as success coaching because it contributes to the ability of my clients to lead a more successful and fuller life. Success coaching involves finding a guide who supports you to bring along the great journey of discovery that is life. With such support, you gradually come to realize your capability, resourcefulness and personal genius. Read the rest of this entry »

Finding your path is a truly life-changing experience. Life is no longer uncertainty – your connection between living and your purpose in life goes with you every day. When you honor your possibilities – allow them to become realities – you become the person you always could be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All of us get lost occasionally. We find ourselves wandering or drifting – sometimes for years. Then one day we realize that the clock is ticking – the sand is running out of our own personal hourglass. Many of my clients come to me when they have reached such a time. They have lost their path. Going it alone can have real costs. Successful people have a secret you should know. Asking for and receiving help along the way can make the difference between a life of no consequences and one of success and contribution.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Life Coaching is for those people who are ready to create a more successful and fulfilling life for themselves. I enjoy my life coaching engagements because they are by far the most holistic in focus – dealing with the whole person. As an experienced life coach, I am skilled in helping you to make the essential improvements that needed in your life. Moreover, as I remind my clients all the time, there is no end to the growth that is possible. Even if your life is great, it can be even better. One of my favorite reviews was ‘I thought that my life was as good as it was going to get, but WOW.’ Anything you can do, I can help you do it better with as your life coach! Most people don’t spend much time thinking about how they decide something – they are too busy deciding. But knowing how and why you decide can make the difference between finding your true path and wandering along a series of blind alleys.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many of my life coaching engagements initially focus on the question of how we decide to do what we do – be with the people we are with – live where we live – and so on. Sure, most of my clients have not put a lot of thought into the question – and that makes it interesting to them. However, the real benefit from asking it comes because it touches on issues that are central to the human experience. How you decide not only determines how you will live your life – it also determines what kind of a person you have and will continue to become. Read the rest of this entry »
Finding your path starts with finding your center. The hard truth is that other people are of little help on that inward journey of discovery. You have to do the heavy lifting yourself before you can finally meet the person you really are.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My life coaching engagements are a breed apart from my other ones. I enjoy working with leaders to develop their skills and abilities. Executive coaching is fulfilling because I can see the advancements and the increased confidence that results. However, life coaching is something else altogether. Here we are working at the very root of what it means to be human and to find a fulfilling life path. Read the rest of this entry »

A new way of looking at the world and humankind may start in academic departments like philosophy and sociology – but sometimes those futuristic thinkers produce ideas that find their way into the mainstream. Innovation and the process of innovation is one of those mainstreams that has been forever changed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back when I was writing my doctoral thesis the idea that the world was moving from a modernist to a post-modernist paradigm was mostly limited to philosophers. The post-modernist thinkers – mostly from counties like Italy and France – and the hyper-modernist theorists in the United States were arguing that the way the world was working was undergoing significant change – that a new way of interacting was emerging that had very substantial implications for how business would be done and how cultures would either survive or decline. With the advance of globalization this idea has gradually moved from the philosophy departments to the boardroom. Read the rest of this entry »
Taking time to reflect – consider – learn – is one way to make your life richer and more fulfilling. It isn’t hard to do – you don’t need some gadget or prop – you just do it. But most people don’t do it – and they suffer lost fulfillment because of that – and remain completely ignorant of the loss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pretty catchy title, don’t you think? Don’t you ‘instant gratification’ types get too carried away. I am going to tell you about a ten minute exercise that will change your life. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it is a daily exercise. You’ll have to find ten minutes each and every day for the rest of your life and work hard to convert this exercise into an enduring habit. For some of you ten minutes a day will prove too high a price for the possibility of changing your life. For others, and I hope most, it will be a small price to pay for a huge step forward. When you are facing a vexing challenge, sometimes the best strategy is to get on the phone, gather a brain trust and meet over drinks. These casual and unstructured session will often give you the key understandings that will make the challenge far more manageable. It’s a simple idea with powerful potential.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whenever I encounter an interesting or particularly vexing problem, I draw together people whose intellect and experience I trust. Over the years I have formed dozens of these ‘mission-impossible brain trusts’. They focus on what I consider important issues – particularly ones that have become a burr under my saddle – if you know what I mean. It helps me sort out complex challenges and keeps me from drinking my own bath water. The quid pro quo for the team members is that they get fresh thinking on challenges that they may not even have recognized. It tends to be a win-win all around! Read the rest of this entry »
There are lessons to learn from listening to what people say – and sometimes those lessons go well beyond what has been said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some 90% plus Americans say they believe in heaven and hell. That corrosive Zoroastrian legacy leaches into their civil society and world view. I suspect that the French have a better handle on this – less than half say they believe in heaven but more than two-thirds believe in hell! Read the rest of this entry »
